This week in court, we highlight the politically charged case of rapper Subhas Nair, who is being charged for allegedly attempting to cause “ill-will” between different racial and religious groups.

This week in court raised questions about the safety of elderly prisoners, especially those with mental disabilities, and the quality of care provided to them. We also saw that in cases where there is a mandatory minimum sentence, the law mandates that a judge must impose a minimum punishment, even if there are mitigating circumstances. Finally, we saw that even with more legal assistance schemes available, not everyone may be able to access them, depending on the nature of the crimes that they are accused of.
